In 2022, 18,348 lawyers were appointed under the system of legal aid as free lawyers in Austria. Of these:
- 13,699 in criminal cases
- 4,087 in civil cases
- 166 before the Constitutional Court of Austria
- 349 before the Supreme Administrative Court
- 33 before the Provincial Administrative Courts
- 12 before the Federal Administrative Court and
- 2 before the Federal Finance Court.
In 2022, the value of services rendered in legal aid was just under € 33 million.
